Hartmann & Forbes introduces new Rio Series to Handwoven Collection

Tualatin, OR (September, 2005) — For centuries, weaving has represented a form of artistic expression and cultural identity in Central America. Today, Hartmann & Forbes pays homage to the art of Central American weaving with the Rio Series. As part of its Traditional Handwoven Collection, the four new weaves feature tightly woven grasses in a distinct pattern that captures the spirit of crafts and textiles from this region.

The Rio Series includes weaves in four warm earth-tone colors. The blond coloration of Rio Rubio mimics the bright, tropical sun, while Rio Terrace is the color of the ancient Aztec pueblos. The rich and golden tones of Rio Oro emulate the golden Mayan temples, and Rio Moreno captures the dark and intriguing hues of tropical rainforests.

"The Rio Series represents an exciting departure for us," said founder Mike Jones. "While most of our weaves are rooted in Asian artistry, this new series draws from the wellspring of Central American craftsmanship - offering designers more choices in pattern and color."

Weaves from the Rio Series are available in Hartmann & Forbes' wide selection of roman shades or the company's unique Panelscreen™ - contemporary panels that traverse on a track. Hartmann & Forbes' window coverings are handwoven by craftsmen overseas and then custom finished by local artisans in the Pacific Northwest to each designer's specifications - allowing for shorter lead times and greater customization.

To embellish these new weaves, Hartmann & Forbes offers a line of edge binding and trim. To add privacy while preserving a neutral appearance from the outside, liner fabrics can be hand-sewn to the back of each shade or Panelscreen™. Blackout and translucent liners are available in soft white, linen and khaki. For optimal customization, a customer's own material can be hand sewn to the window coverings as a unique liner, or can be stripped and hand sewn as trim or edge binding.
