Tualatin, OR (June 2006) Hartmann & Forbes, a maker of high-end, natural handwoven window coverings, has launched the PapyrusWeaves Collection. Inspired by ancient weaving traditions from around the world, this innovative line features nearly 80 woven jute and pulp fiber patterns. Handcrafted of environmentally sustainable materials, each weave can be fashioned into a variety of window coverings, all part of Hartmann & Forbes' Take-Back program so they can be recycled to complete their life cycle.
The PapyrusWeaves Collection draws on influences from nearly 20 different cultures. The line includes delicate patterns inspired by Asian silk and bold patterns that pay homage to Central American weaving. There are fresh tartan patterns that nod to the Celtic tradition. And ancient Navajo techniques dating back to the 19th century are captured in a group of highly graphic weaves.
"The prevalence of weaving as an art form among civilizations from all around the world throughout history is fascinating," said Mike Jones, Hartmann & Forbes' founder and CEO. "Our PapyrusWeaves Collection captures these techniques, creating modern interpretations of the designs and textures that have been popular for thousands of years."
Available as roman shades, draperies, PanelScreen and roller shades, the PapyrusWeaves Collection is among the most versatile line in the industry. The window coverings are handwoven by craftsmen overseas and then custom finished by local artisans in the Pacific Northwest to each designer's specifications - allowing for shorter lead times and greater customization.
To complete the luxurious finish, Hartmann & Forbes offers hand-sewn edges or a variety of edge binding, including eight new Chiffon Edge Bindings for added tailoring. Customer's own material can also be stripped and hand sewn as trim or edge binding.
While some of the weaves are sheer in nature, greater privacy can be achieved through liner fabrics that Hartmann & Forbes' hand sews to the back of each shade, drapery or Panelscreen . Blackout and translucent liners in soft white, linen and khaki are available and preserve a neutral appearance from the exterior.
Naples Wall Coverings
As part of the PapyrusWeave Collection, Hartmann & Forbes is proud to launch eight highly textured natural wall coverings. Inspired by the tropical resort island of Capri, these wall coverings are made from natural materials and feature warm earth tones. "Natural wall coverings are a natural product extension for Hartmann & Forbes," said Jones. "The rich textures and natural colorations add softness and an organic quality to otherwise cold wall surfaces."
